Big Bear (2017) – Gamefans8

Big Bear is the story of a wedding that almost was. So what is a guy and his friends to do? Have the party anyway! One small issue however, one of his friends decides the best idea is to kidnap the guy his fiancee left him for.

The movie itself is pretty fun, I was actually expecting a sort rip off of the hangover movies but that is thankfully not what we got at all. The first night we do see a bunch of drinking, and a stripper, and they do have a hangover in the morning however there won’t be any memory loss shenanigans.

The story mostly focuses on how this guy managed to steal his fiancee in the first place, and what they are going to do with him now that his idiot friend kidnapped him in the first place. There are some cheap laughs and it has its moments that will make you think. The movie isn’t great, but I did enjoy it none the less. Its worth checking out if you have some free time but don’t expect some sort of life altering experience. Its good enough for what it is and it will entertain you and the ending is great. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Dirty Grandpa Unrated (2016) – Gamefans8

Everyone seems to love? Robert De Niro, and rightfully tho. I have mixed feelings for Zack Efron. On one hand he is a great actor but on the other that son of a bitch ruined large portions of my life with the High School Musical movies. I have kids and they watched them on repeat. Anyways I digress, I went into this movie not knowing what to expect. So tossing this one on I was a didn’t expect much.

For the love of god if you like comedies, don’t think. Just watch this movie. Efron plays his role of the upper middle class grandson to perfection. You spend half the movie believing and knowing he is sick of his grandfathers (De Niro) antics. De Niro on the other hand may be the most demented and foul-mouthed grandfather in existence.

There is a story here by the way. The day after his grandmother dies Jason (Efron) is pretty much shanghaied into driving his grandfather to his home in Florida. The trip doesn’t start out well. Gramps is having a solo love session when Jason walks in. This is the kind of movie we are dealing with here. They will stop for lunch and meet some friends from Jasons college years. This will propel gramps into a quest to nail a college chick under the false pretense that he is in fact a college professor. Which works out well because her mission is to sleep with a professor.

All of this is done on a time crunch as Jason is getting married in a week. The ending is actually quite predictable but there are a few surprises in store. As far as comedies go tho, this is one of the best I have seen in a while. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Planet of the Sharks (2016) – Gamefans8

Planet of the sharks is an interesting concept. Due to climate change the ice caps have melted and the world has flooded. Humans now live on floating cities in small numbers. Sharks freely roam the world since water now covers pretty much the entire planet. One shark however has seemed to have transformed into a special shark that now leads and controls the others. With the ocean temperatures riding even more food is becoming more scarce. Since food is harder to find sharks are now hunting the humans in the floating cities.

The story sounds fun and has a lot of promise, the problem is despite solid acting and an interesting story the movie falls flat. The script itself leaves much to be desired and the entire sun story of a single rocket fixing the global warming problem is at best idiotic and at worst a complete waste of time and misguided. Don’t get me wrong, it could have been great. The entire movie could have been amazing, it just fell short. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007) – Gamefans8

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is the story of two male fire fighters that get married. The catch? They are both very straight. Kevin James character lost his wife and after being hurt in an accident is worried about his family and convinces Adam Sandlers character to marry him so his kids are taken care of. This is around the time Sandeler meets the love of his life.

The movie is fun as you would expect from these two, but it is pretty cliche in pretty much every way possible. From a gay son, to the investigator trying to catch them. There is nothing new or surprising to this movie. The movie works tho, the acting is great and its got a nice mix of fun and serious moments with a happy ending. Just don’t expect this movie to offer up anything new. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Ghostbusters 2 (1989) – Gamefans8

The Ghostbusters are back, sort of. After the events of the first movie they get sued for all the damage they caused and are forced out of business when they are banned from investigating the paranormal. No good deed goes unpunished right guys? Tho it is a Ghostbusters movie after all, so they will do some digging anyway and discover a river of slime under where a baby carriage mysteriously stopped. Of course they get caught and arrested however, it doesn’t really take much to get caught excavating a road even in New York.

Lucky or unlucky for them the judge is a real hard ass, and the slime reacts to negative emotion and unleashes a few ghost in the courtroom. After the Ghostbusters refuse to do their job since they would be breaking the law, they are court ordered to go back to work.

After much more investigation, Vigo reveals himself, and he wants a body. However you are going to have to watch the movie to find out more. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Destiny AKA Reaper (1921) – Gamefans8

Sometimes I watch movies from way back in the day. Like so far back you need a history lesson. For example this movie, Destiny, called Reaper on Netflix was originally released as Behind The Wall in the United States back in 1921 and was called?Der m¨¹de Tod:?ein deutsches volkslied?in Germany it seems. I say it seems because I don’t speak any German so that may just be the same name in a different language.

The movie itself is a silent film that us a fantasy love story that follows multiple couples. My favorite involves a woman attempting to make a deal with Death to get her lost love back but she can’t make the sacrifices Death demands.

The movie, not unlike?Metropolis Restored (1927)?has been damaged quite a bit over the years and has been re-pieced together from multiple sources tho not as extensively as Metropolis. I didn’t enjoy this one as much but its historic value can’t be understated. Movies from that time are rarely found complete and are even more rarely shown so readily to the public. If you have the time its pretty cool to check out for the movie buffs out there. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Ghostbusters (1984) – Gamefans8

Every so often Netflix or Hulu adds a movie and I just have to sit back and watch. Or I just rip it out of my collection for old times sake. Ghostbusters is a classic, and with very good reason. The story of Peter, Ray,Egon and Winston saving New York from Ghost and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man is one every kid in the 80’s and 90’s knows by heart. It launched video games, cartoons, toys, sequels and even came back in 2016 with an all girl cast which got mixed reviews. Admittedly I have not seen it yet but I keep telling myself I will get around to it,

The first Ghostbusters movie covers the founding of the team itself, from them being fired from the local college to the very first call where they capture Slimer. It isn’t long before they get accused of causing all these ghost to appear and tossed in jail by the EPA. There is plenty of fun stuff in between, but I don’t want to ruin this for the rare person that hasn’t seen this. The gaming gods would like to remind you, if someone asks if you are a god, you say yes.

Power Rangers 2017 (2nd opinion) – Gamefans8

I promised @torstenvblog I would toss his review in here early so you could see his, so you can see that here?Power Rangers. I will also say this, the movie had some nice comedic parts, the characters were good and well played and was entertaining at times. If you just wanted to see the positive?now is the time to stop reading. Because I am about to trash this movie for a number of reasons.

To start, the opening scene with the cow gave me hope, but then the movie turned into The Breakfast Club. Seriously the dad even pulls the line about blowing his ride as he drops him off for Saturday detention.

Moving on to them…finding the power coins laying around…randomly, not sure how that even works out, they now move on to ripping off the Spider Man movies.Seriously the punching the sink knocking out a bully and even jumping a cliff ( yes I realize Spidey did a building) this movie didn’t seem to have an original scene in the first hour and a half of a two hour movie. Hell even Trini essentially ripped off the Karate Kid.

Not to mention when the hell did the power rangers become super heroes when not morphed? Now their suits ( that are now basically mech suits for protection) are basically super heroes. They have super strength, superior speed, reflexes recovery power and durability. Seriously the suits are really just there as armor and weapons.

Next we get to Goldar, who is literally just a pile of amorphous solid? gold in the general shape of a monster. The movie moved so far away from the source material calling it a power ranger movie has no meaning. Yes the movie was entertaining, but calling this a power ranger movie is a stretch. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.

Brothers Grimm (2005) – Gamefans8

This is one of those movies i am not 100% sure how to score.? The movie from a critical stand point is not good. The story is all over the place, much if it making no real sense and doesn’t actually line up with the actual Brothers Grimm Stories themselves. The special effects even for the time were quite corny tho much of that was intentional admittedly for a story purpose.

Here is why I am torn, with Matt Damon and Heath Ledger the acting was great and the movie was simply a fun and entertaining experience and really that is the point of a movie in the first place. The plot holes aren’t distracting, tho they are clearly present. The characters never go thru any real building, they simply are what they are, which for the most part is fine since they are solid characters anyway. The best way of putting it is if you are looking for a deep, meaningful and insightful experience this is not the movie for you. However, if you want something fun and entertaining, this movie is an excellent choice. Best wishes and ma the gaming gods bring you glory.
