Every so often I see a movie and I notice the year it came out and my brain goes damn it I am old. Tho a friend of mine just recently pointed out I have known her for almost 30 years so that wrecked my life a little bit to know I have known her almost my entire life. Men in Black is one of those movies. 1997 doesn’t seem that long ago, but 20 years went by pretty quick apparently.
Men in Black as you know spawned two sequels, a cartoon, video games and rumor has it soon a Men in Black 4. More on that tho in a future post. For now the original. The first one sees Will Smith as a regular old cop doing his job, and suddenly chasing a guy down on foot. This dude is quick and can jump damn near like an Olympic athlete. This catches the eye of the character played by Tommy Lee Jones, Agent K.
Agent K eventually test a group of people, and chooses Will Smith to be an agent, Agent J. Together they are essentially the police that operate independently of even the governments of the world as the police for the numerous aliens that visit and live on Earth. The movie is fun and has actually popularized a few conspiracy theories, one of which basically says the movie was released by the government to judge how people would take the news of aliens and such a groups existence being real. The movie holds up pretty well, and I definitely recommend seeing it. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Everyone seems to love? Robert De Niro, and rightfully tho. I have mixed feelings for Zack Efron. On one hand he is a great actor but on the other that son of a bitch ruined large portions of my life with the High School Musical movies. I have kids and they watched them on repeat. Anyways I digress, I went into this movie not knowing what to expect. So tossing this one on I was a didn’t expect much.
For the love of god if you like comedies, don’t think. Just watch this movie. Efron plays his role of the upper middle class grandson to perfection. You spend half the movie believing and knowing he is sick of his grandfathers (De Niro) antics. De Niro on the other hand may be the most demented and foul-mouthed grandfather in existence.
There is a story here by the way. The day after his grandmother dies Jason (Efron) is pretty much shanghaied into driving his grandfather to his home in Florida. The trip doesn’t start out well. Gramps is having a solo love session when Jason walks in. This is the kind of movie we are dealing with here. They will stop for lunch and meet some friends from Jasons college years. This will propel gramps into a quest to nail a college chick under the false pretense that he is in fact a college professor. Which works out well because her mission is to sleep with a professor.
All of this is done on a time crunch as Jason is getting married in a week. The ending is actually quite predictable but there are a few surprises in store. As far as comedies go tho, this is one of the best I have seen in a while. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
The rumors of Men in Black 4 have been going on since the third movie came out. But according to some sources such as?variety?the movie may really be happening. Will Smith is not attached to the project but that could change, but they are looking to cast a female agent to help bring a fresh look to the franchise. I’m not sure if I am looking forward to this movie or not, but time will tell. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is the story of two male fire fighters that get married. The catch? They are both very straight. Kevin James character lost his wife and after being hurt in an accident is worried about his family and convinces Adam Sandlers character to marry him so his kids are taken care of. This is around the time Sandeler meets the love of his life.
The movie is fun as you would expect from these two, but it is pretty cliche in pretty much every way possible. From a gay son, to the investigator trying to catch them. There is nothing new or surprising to this movie. The movie works tho, the acting is great and its got a nice mix of fun and serious moments with a happy ending. Just don’t expect this movie to offer up anything new. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
I’m starting this review off by thanking my friend Autobot for getting me this book for my Birthday. I’m a huge fan of Image comics and there stories. I hate Fairyland is essentially the story of every bubbly kid’s fantasy becoming a nightmare. Gerty was a little girl when she was brought to the colorful, wonderful Fairyland by Queen Cloudia and sent on a magical, mystical quest to find a key back to her world with her talking fly companion Larrigon Wentsworth 3 (Larry) and sent off. Well, thirty years later Gerty has gotten pretty pissed and gone a bit mad searching and slaughtering her way to get her escape. While not physically aging, mentally Gerty has become a vulgar, cynical, angry murderer with a itty bitty drinking problem. Cloudia gets enraged finally when Gerty kills her stars and tries like hell to bring the forces of Fairyland to kill the brat for her, even going so far as to recruit Happy, another innocent to finish her off. After getting defeated by Happy and facing the realization she may die in Fairyland, Gerty makes the decision to join forces with the darkest forces of Fairyland to seek her revenge…
I really love this simple revenge story in a very happy, kiddy world. I love the fusion of children’s story archetypes and insane gore. Think God of War in the world of Care Bears. I really enjoyed the writing and art style and the ending is badass. I think it’s definitely worth checking out and I will dig farther into the series as I have with?Nailbiter: vol 1 there will be blood?, which reviews for volumes 2 and 3 of that series are coming soon. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
What can I say, he’s mother f$%king Black Dynamite. Whether he’s kicking a racist Kermit’s ass for trying to hypnotize kids or defeating a racist conspiracy to eliminate legendary black porn stars, and even guarding Richard Pryor, Black Dynamite straight up kicks ass. Through an insane few seasons, I got to say I loved this cartoon based on the exploitation film of the same name. The voice acting is great and the animation is really well done. I love the celebrity parodies throughout, whether it’s a alien Michael Jackson or my favorite,? a maniacal Mr. Rodgers. If you are looking for a quick watch full of ass kicking and humor, I recommend checking this show out, and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
It finally happened: the Aqua Teens finally face Dr. Weird as we finally discover there origin in this epic feature film. Seriously, this movie sneaked up on me. It opens on a cameo of Abe Lincoln, a trip to the moon, and a sweet nu- metal remix of the theme song. So the plot mainly focuses on the gang getting a new piece of exercise equipment that turns out to be an apocalyptic death machine. If you love the show, you will love the crazy scale of the movie and will appreciate the other cameos throughout (Space Ghost man). I found myself liking it a lot more than I thought I would; may the gaming gods bring you glory.
Again, here I was watching adult rated cartoons as a kid when Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In seasons it’s changed names but the theme always kept the same: Anthropomorphic food stuffs Master Shake, Frylock, and MeatWad act as “Detectives” from there New Jersey home and deal with crazy shit like 8 Bit aliens from the moon, giant robots, the robot ghost of Christmas past, and there arch enemy Dr Weird- and occasionally there pissed off, perverted neighbor Carl. With only 15 minute episodes, the many seasons can be eaten up in a flash if you want something quick to watch. I got to give the show credit, it stays pretty damn inventive and never really feels played out. As a childhood favorite, it’s worth looking into if you need something weird in your life. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
I just got into middle school when the Boondocks hit the scene on Adult Swim and wow it hit hard. A decade and a half later I’m still impressed with the show’s mix of racial comedy, deep messages, and influences from Hip hop and anime all in one. It’s rare a show can make me laugh hysterically, look at the world a little differently, and even stare in awe at a couple of epic fights along the way. The show centers on two brothers, Huey and Riley Freedmen, who go to live with there Grandfather, a former Civil Rights activist who struck it rich and now lives in a all white gated community. With a list of colorfully strange characters and a cool art style, this show is definitely worth checking out, though I do suggest trying to track the show down unedited because you will hear a lot of bleeps. May the gaming gods bring you glory.
I have never watched a Ricky Gervais stand up, tho I have seen him talk and seen a few clips here and there. He always struck me as an intelligent and funny guy whether you agree with his point of view or not. I didn’t really know what to expect tho. After watching this one however made me realize this guy cares not at all about what he says. Not in the sense that he intentionally says messed up things or goes out of his way to be cruel or offensive. However he understands things certain things many people seem to have forgotten. The context of a joke and the target of a joke matters just as much as anything else. A joke including the word rape is not the same as making a joke about someone being raped, making a joke about a trans gendered person is not the same as making a joke about a person being trans gendered. Both of these are points he makes during the stand up he has encountered.? His stand up it at times messed up but is hilarious and thought-provoking and even if you don’t like that kind of humor it might make you appreciate a different perspective. Best wishes and may the gaming gods bring you glory.
